You know the name, now get to know the person! Adam Golder, commercial director at T Shirt & Sons, talks about his ambition to see the Big Five, cringey Americanisms, and his love of cars and boats
How and when did you start your career in the industry?
The year was 2000. A friend asked me to help him sell more T-shirts. I’m still trying.
What’s your most over-used word or phrase?
‘Thanks for reaching out’. It’s so annoying and an Americanism that I continue to bleat out even though it makes me cringe after saying it. Must try harder.
Which three words would your friends use to describe your personality?
Had to check with a colleague and they said innovative, logical and empathetic. However, they are not to be trusted. My friends’ words were not publishable.
What is your favourite radio station or podcast?
The High Performance Podcast. It has some great insights to what makes successful individuals tick in their chosen fields. It’s worth a look if you haven’t caught it before.

Later this year, Adam is hoping to see the Big Five in Africa
Tomato ketchup or brown sauce?
Well that depends on the substrate. Fish ‘n’ chips, burgers, etc = ketchup. Scrambled eggs on toast, bacon butties, etc = brown.
What was the last book you read?
The Kornit Apollo manual. It’s mainly fiction.
What’s your party trick?
Pushing the base of a drinks can into the palm of my hand with fingers fully splayed. Then open the can and pour the liquid into a glass.
What’s your greatest ambition?
To see the Big Five in Africa. Which I will finally be doing later this year with my wife and daughters.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Cars. I know its not very PC right now but I spend about three hours a day commuting so that has to be as enjoyable as possible.
Is there another job that you’ve always wanted to do?
Running my own commercial boating business in the Med.
If you could be anywhere on Earth right now, where would you be?
On my boat just off the Dalmatian coastline in Croatia. Total unwind.
Which gadget or app couldn’t you live without?
The Guardian app. It’s the one source of news with some level of impartiality…I think/hope.
