The sweatshirt comes into its own this season, hence our timely look at the current crop of fleece-backed styles on the high street
New Look has come up with a stunner this month with its Grey Graffiti Embroidered Sweater. This over-sized grey top with ribbed cuffs and hems is scattered with embroidered drawings and scribblings and is guaranteed to fly off the shelves. To recreate the look, we recommend grabbing the Mantis Women’s Long Length Sweat (M121) with its relaxed fit and elliptical hem for a longer back.
We’re also big fans of this seemingly simple (but-not-really) design from Debenhams. Again in grey – a classic sporty sweats colour – this garment has a V-insert on the neck for extra interest. Cottonridge’s Ultra Premium Sweat Shirt (W107PF), made from 65% cotton/35% polyester, also features the eye-catching V along with ribbed hem and cuffs, and a discrete phone pocket in the side seam.
Moving along the rails, there’s the Lacoste Branded Crew Neck Sweatshirt from House of Fraser. Made in 82% cotton/18% polyester with a soft inside, it dispenses with plain old grey in favour of ‘silver chine grey marl’. A great imprint pair is Stedman’s Sweatshirt (ST4000), a ringspun cotton/poly crew neck that is brushed inside and oozes casual style.
Topshop always nails the latest looks, and its super soft hoodie with sparingly yet stylishly applied appliqué is no exception. The B&C DNM Universe (WWD25) will appeal to the same youthful market. Made from 80% cotton/20% polyester and with a brushed fleece inside, this heather hoodie has a feminine cut, side seams and metallic eyelets.
As the weather gets colder it’s time to reach for a super warm hoodie. The Superdry Heavy Winter Zip Hood is an awesome top that demands to be snuggled up in. With flat, white drawcords and cosy hood, it’s a great match for the Fur Lined Chunky Zoodie from Just Hoods by AWDis (JH054). This zoodie includes brass zip; double fabric hood with charcoal grey fur fabric; chunky, white, flat drawcords; and kangaroo pouch pocket.
