This steampunk squirrel – brilliantly named Captain Kieron Von Cogtail – was stitched by Lotem Graphics for Adgestone Vineyard. The wonderfully ‘nuts’ embroidery had been commissioned by the vineyard to display at this year’s Steampunk Festival on the Isle of Wight.
“We used a mixture of Kingstar and Isacord threads for this particular design to get the correct colour combinations that we needed to achieve the look of the original artwork,” explains Lisa Stewart, business partner at the Totton-based print and embroidery business. Lotem supplies workwear, school uniform, club garments, sportswear and band merch, along with signs, vehicle graphics and promo items.
The 89,770-stitch job, complete with 32 colour changes, took a long time to embroider but was worth it, she adds. “Itwas run on Barudan machines and took over two hours to run each design.” The digitising was carried out by Thread for Stitches.
“The only really tricky part to the job was getting the colours right that worked together, which is why we ended up using a mixture of thread brands,” says Lisa.
Captain Kieron Von Cogtail was applied to 100% cotton material in burgundy with finished edges. Adgestone Vineyard then stitched the steampunk squirrel artwork to the back of their jackets.
