Darren Sedge, of Squeezed Orange, explains how he created a textured 3D cap motif for garment brand AS Colour…
“The AS Colour logo is a simple, classic logo. The 3D motif part was my addition.
“We wanted to create something simple and clean with a bit of a luxury feel. Colour matching the thread to the main body of the hat created a simplistic, minimalist look. Then the motif in the embroidery added a textured dimension.
“The whole digitising process took around 20 minutes. I did it all myself, in house, using Wilcom Embroidery Studio digitising software.
“To create this effect, I used the Motif Fill / Single Motifs / Kite 01 settings.”

“We used Barudan embroidery machines with 75/11 needles.”
“For this design, we used Madeira Polyneon thread with Madeira Hard Body Builder 3D foam to create the raised, three-dimensional effect.”
“We then used a heat gun over the embroidery to tighten up the end results.”
The design was stitched out on a Barudan embroidery machine
“The hats are the 100% cotton Frame Two-Tone Cap from AS Colour.
“The order was for 20 hats in total.”
