Tell us a bit about your business
We have been in business since 1986 and are the UK’s leading ethically-accredited screen printing and embroidery company. We started out doing small orders for the university and tourist shops in Oxford and we export globally and nationally, dealing with one-off , single item orders all the way up to massive promotional orders of over 100,000 garments. We are still fairly small by some standards and have two auto carousels and two manual carousels.

What dryer did you buy?
We use an Adelco Ecotex dryer, purchased in October 2017. It replaced a Macpherson D60. It cost about £26,000.

Why did you choose the Ecotex?
We were in a rush to make a purchase and went straight for what we knew was a good brand with good support. Adelco was our first and only port of call and they shipped within a couple of weeks from first call to them.

We heard about the environmental advantages of running a more efficient dryer, and it was the right size and shape to fit into the space the old dryer was going to make. It was also readily available and we wanted to move fast.

Is there anything you’d like to see in an upgrade or don’t particularly like about it?
It is a superb dryer, all touchscreen controls and much quieter than our old dryer. It is too early to say what savings on gas we are going to make, but gas prices seem to be going skyward all the time.

What’s it like to use? Do you have any tips on how to get the most out of it?
It needs a bit of attention each day before start up. The filters do get mucky and there is a little lens that occasionally needs a wipe, otherwise it just runs quietly doing its job.

What would be your advice to others thinking of buying a dryer?
Adelco is a good option. Probably the best, but others may have a different view. You can spend a lot of time working out which dryer is more economical, which dryer is better value, which dryer you can get in your time frame, but this is all fluff and noise that takes you away from other things in the business. It’s a box that blows heat on your shirts, it will break down from time to time, but can it be fixed quickly, can you get parts quickly etc?
