What do you love about working in the garment industry? And what do you loathe? Daisy Mai Brown, an embroiderer at Screenworks in Suffolk, shares her pet likes and dislikes…

LOVE IT!

  • Beanies are my favourite – quick to frame, quick to stitch, and they always look great
  • Being on my feet all day – it’s a workout without the gym membership!
  • Every job is different – one day it’s 1,000 uniforms and the next, it’s our creative product of the month
  • Getting glammed up: a fresh manicure or a good hair day is an instant confidence booster
  • The satisfaction of finishing a large job, ie 5,000 units

LOATHE IT!

  • Thread breakages – every embroiderer’s worst nightmare!
  • Parkas and their impossible linings (wrestling with awkward garments)
  • The machine’s beep of doom
  • Tension issues – both the machine’s and mine
  • The sound of someone slurping their tea – no, just no
