Childrenswear is no longer the “most risky” of the clothing sectors in terms of investment, according to Mantis, with demand growing for garments that reflect the trends and styles preferred by the younger generation, while Ralawise notes that toddlerwear is one of the fastest-growing sectors in imprint. We review all the latest options in this rapidly maturing sector
The latest addition to Gildan’s Heavy Cotton 5000 line of T-shirts from Gildan is the Toddler T-Shirt (5100P). Made from 185 gsm, 100% cotton, the Toddler T-Shirt – like others in the range – has taped neck and shoulder seams for added comfort, twin-needle stitching on the sleeve and bottom hems, and is built to withstand frequent wear and washing. It comes in sizes 2T-6T and in six colours. Also from this line for children is the Youth T-Shirt (5000B).
The Fairtrade Cotton Junior Craft Apron (W362) from Westford Mill is a brand new style for 2017, available from January. Ideal for the mini baker or enthusiastic crafter, this full bib apron has cotton herringbone neck and waist ties, with the neck tie also featuring an adjustable Velcro safety closure. It is made from 290 gsm, 100% Fairtrade cotton drill and measures 45 x 60 cm. It is also available in a matching adults’ size.
PenCarrie has a wide selection of styles for small ones, with brands including Sol’s, Larkwood, AWDis, and Bella+Canvas. The Miles Stripe Baby Bodysuit (01401) from Sol’s is made from a soft-touch, combed ringspun cotton and features a popper-fastening along with an unbranded size label at the neckline. It is available in white/navy, ash/lemon and white/ red. Also highlighted by the distributor is the soft, 100% cotton Larkwood Baby Sleepsuit (LW50T) with shaped feet for cosy toes.
New this autumn from SF Minni is the Kids’ Onesie (SM470), complete with tear-out label for easy rebranding. This on-trend all-in-one is made from 280 gsm, 80% cotton/20% polyester, brushed-back fleece and features a lined hood, elasticated cuff and deep patch pocket. It is available in six colours: navy, black, heather grey, fuchsia, red and sapphire blue. Also new this year is the Long Sleeved Baseball T (SM271), Slim Fit Cuffed Jogger (SM425), Shorts (SM062), Retro Shorts (SM069) and Leggings (SM064).
New from Beechfield this autumn/winter is the Junior Fair Isle Beanie (B456b). This eye-catching hat is made from 100% soft-spun acrylic, has a TearAway label for ease of rebranding, cuffed design for optimal decoration, and self-coloured pom pom. Available in four colourways – classic red/white, fuchsia/white, French navy/white and sapphire blue/white – this beanie with its classic styling features a timeless Fair Isle pattern, and is also available in an adult size.
The Kids Hoodie (JH001J) from Just Hoods by AWDis is, says the brand, “a bold and simple hooded top for kids and perfect for school trips or lazy days”. It is available in 26 shades and comes with a kangaroo pouch pocket featuring a small hidden opening for earphones. Also available from the brand is the American-style Kids Varsity Jacket (JH043J), the Kids Varsity Zoodie (JH053J) with contrast zip, and Kids Jogpants (JH071J), made from a soft, cotton-faced fabric.
The new girls’ Sweat T (MK122) from Mantis Kids has been created to reflect current retail trends while still offering decoration opportunities for the dancewear and own-brand fashion market. It has a wider neckline, curved hem, boxy fit and short, roll-back sleeves, and is made from a loop-back French terry fabric. “It’s street, it’s modern, it’s great quality and it’s destined to get worn time and time again and, as with all Mantis World styles, you can be assured it’s ethically and very carefully produced,” says the brand.
Comfy Co specialises in cosy all-in-ones that are made for lazing about in. The Kids Contrast All-in-one (CC003J), a new garment for autumn/winter, is made with a relaxed fit in a lighter weight fabric and is available in seven contrast colourways. Also highlighted by the company is the soft, cotton-faced Kids All-in-one (CC001J) and the Mini All-In-One (CC011J), complete with full zip fastening through the body for easy dressing.
