These children’s festival T-shirts are from House of Happy Threads, a handmade fashion brand that specialises in kids and adults leggings.
Disco-loving founder Lucy Hawkins set up the company when her daughter Tilly was born 10 years ago. “I wanted cool, quirky clothes for her – but couldn’t find any locally. I eventually discovered a small Scottish business making unique designs, and it inspired me to start my own. With no sewing background and 20 years in publishing, I jumped into lessons. I quickly got hooked – so much that I booked one-on-one sessions with my teacher to fast-track my skills! And that’s how it all began.”
The children’s festival T-shirts are a new addition to the brand. “I have wanted to do T-shirts for a while, to be honest, and customers kept asking me if I would sell them as they would be fab with the leggings. The Smiley Disco is one of my bestselling designs so it seemed perfect to go with that option. Plus, it’s a happy, smiley face and fits so well with my brand, kids and adults alike.”
They are decorated by Snuggle, the Peterborough-based print-on-demand company, using direct-to-garment printing, explains Lucy. “I was introduced to somebody that works for Snuggle and we discussed the opportunity of working together and it went from there.” The designs are printed on Gildan Heavy Cotton Youth T-Shirts (5000B) in white and black.
The first print run was 50 in various sizes, and customer feedback has been “good so far!”.
Lucy adds: “I am hoping to expand the T-shirt collection, and would be particularly keen to go with a neon range as some of my prints are neon and have a UV glow, so are perfect for festivals.”
