Patch beanies, sustainable fabrics, corduroy hats and technical innovations are just some of the key headwear trends to watch this year, reports Hannah Clarke of Beechfield

What are the key headwear trends in 2025?
Right now, the customised cap industry is going through an exciting shift. In 2025, caps aren’t just a practical accessory – they’ve become a real statement piece. People are looking for unique, one-of-a-kind designs, and brands are responding by offering more options for personalisation. Caps have truly become a canvas for self-expression.
Looking at baseball caps, 2024 saw them take on a more luxurious feel; now, in 2025, headwear trends are seeing them evolving into something called ‘sporty prep.’ It’s a mix of athletic and preppy influences, blending casual sportswear with more tailored fashion. This style is gaining traction, and baseball caps are playing a big role in pulling the look together.
Athleisure is still going strong, and sporty caps with clean designs, minimalist logos, and high-performance fabrics are becoming more popular. People want something that looks good but also works for an active lifestyle, and these caps deliver on both.
When it comes to beanies, sustainability is a big focus. More and more eco-conscious shoppers are choosing options made from recycled and organic materials. Organic cotton beanies are especially popular, which fits right in with Beechfield’s focus. The cool, breathable cotton allows air to circulate around the scalp, which helps keep your head cool and dry. It also has natural moisture-wicking properties, so it can absorb sweat and keep you comfortable during outdoor activities, which makes it a popular choice for cooler days.

Are there any specific design features that your headwear customers are demanding for 2025, or are especially popular at present?
For 2025, we are finding that customers are really leaning towards customisation, sustainability, and functionality when it comes to headwear design. Current headwear trends are seeing a growth in demand for personalised details, whether it’s embroidery, patches, or unique textures that make a cap or beanie feel truly one-of-a-kind. People want their headwear to reflect their personality, and Beechfield is stepping up with more options than ever.
Corduroy and other textured fabrics are making a comeback in casualwear, and they’re starting to pop up in baseball caps. These materials give the classic cap a unique, vintage feel, adding depth and style. We’ve had a great response to our new cord collection (the B679 Earthaware Organic Cord Camper Cap, the B680 Earthaware Organic Cord Baseball Cap, and the B687 Earthaware Organic Cord Bucket Hat).
One of the biggest trends in vintage caps is the distressed or ‘worn-in’ look. Caps with frayed edges, faded colours, and intentional weathering are highly sought after for their effortless, lived-in vibe. These caps often have a pre-broken-in feel, making them look like they’ve been your favourite go-to hat for years. Through the demand for our B655 we’ve grown our vintage offering with two more styles (B688 Vintage Bucket Hat and the B672 6 Panel Vintage Trucker).
Sustainability is also a huge focus for both us and our customers. Recycled fabrics and organic cotton are in high demand, as more consumers are making conscious choices.
On the performance side, breathable, lightweight, and moisture-wicking fabrics are key, especially for those who wear caps as part of an active lifestyle. Sporty caps with minimalist designs and performance materials are a go-to choice.
Another interesting shift is in silhouettes – classic dad caps and structured snapbacks are still loved, but we’re also seeing more interest in relaxed, unstructured fits for a casual, effortless vibe. Meanwhile, in beanies anything with a patch seems to be the in demand item for 2025.

What further innovations or new styles can readers expect to see in this sector this year?
In 2025, we’re continuing to innovate and improve in the world of patch beanies and caps. Our journey started with the B445 Original Patch Beanie, aka the ‘printer’s beanie’, which was originally designed for printers who needed a practical, durable option for printing onto acrylic. Fast forward to today, and patch beanies have exploded in popularity, not just for workwear but also in retail and fashion.
We’ve expanded our patch beanie range significantly, to give our customers more options than ever. One exciting innovation for 2025 is the introduction of silicone heat-resistant templates for all styles in our patch collection. Early feedback has been incredibly positive, with decorators finding these templates to be a real game-changer when it comes to customising the beanies more easily as it allows for more precise, efficient, and safe decoration of items. It’s a huge leap forward in making the customisation process easier and more accessible for a wide range of customers.
We’re always looking for ways to make the decorating process smoother, so whether you’re a decorator or a business looking to personalise products, we’re here to help. And as we look ahead, we’ll continue to improve our product range and stay on top of headwear trends to keep offering the best solutions for our customers.

What was the bestselling headwear style from Beechfield in 2024 and do you think it will retain its crown in 2025 or is there another style that is shaping up to take top spot this year?
In 2024, patch beanies (like the B445) are likely to have been a strong contender for the bestseller spot. Looking ahead to 2025, sustainable and performance-driven headwear are likely to take the spotlight. The rise in environmental consciousness and the demand for multi-functional, high-quality products are shaping customers’ buying choices.
Bucket hats are also experiencing a resurgence, redefining outfits with their statement-making presence.
How do you see headwear product development progressing?
Over the next few years, headwear product development is set to progress in exciting ways, innovation will be at the heart of that.
Technical features will be a major focus. We’d like to develop more headwear designed with performance in mind – think moisture-wicking materials, UV-protection, water-resistance, and breathable fabrics. These types of technical enhancements will cater to active consumers who want functionality alongside style. Expect more advanced fabrics that can adapt to weather conditions, keeping wearers cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Sustainability will also continue to be a key priority for Beechfield, with more eco-friendly options coming to our product lines. It’s a win for both the planet and our customers. And comfort and fit will always be a top focus. We’re working on more flexible, ergonomic designs that feel great to wear all day, ensuring that every hat fits just right.
What’s the single best piece of marketing and sales advice you can give to Images readers to help them sell more headwear?
Whether you’re selling a beanie or a baseball cap, the best piece of marketing and sales advice I’d give is to focus on the customer’s needs. Headwear isn’t just about function – it’s about how it fits into their daily life, speaks to their style, or helps them feel their best. By understanding what matters to your customers – whether it’s comfort, style, or performance – you can communicate how your Beechfield product delivers exactly what they’re looking for.
