The Government is carrying out research into how well prepared British companies are for supplying personal protective equipment (PPE) if there were another pandemic.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has launched a “preliminary market engagement exercise” aimed at strengthening the UK’s pandemic preparedness by assessing the nation’s PPE manufacturing capabilities.
It wants to hear from British companies so it can gain a clearer understanding of current manufacturing capabilities, production volumes, lead times, supply chain constraints and the challenges organisations may face when increasing output during a pandemic surge.
The DHSC is also interested in hearing from businesses such as garment decorators that previously supplied PPE or attempted to transition into PPE manufacturing during the Covid-19 response.
Participants are being asked to complete a detailed questionnaire outlining their current capabilities, scalability, operational requirements and potential barriers to production expansion.
