Chinese company Flocus has won the Performance Days Eco Award for its development of a new yarn based on the natural fibre kapok. Kapok fibres are very light and hollow, have high insulation properties, absorb practically no water and have a natural antibacterial effect. It is traditionally hard to spin, however, because of its fine wax-like coating, which is why Flocus’s creation of a fabric made from kapok blended with cotton and spandex has garnered so much attention.
