This featured work of decorated textile art is a little bit different. In place of the usual polo or tee is an 8m x 3m embroidery piece called The Map to the World by textile artist Alice Kettle.
The Bespoke Embroidery Service at GS UK worked with Alice to create this unique textile work that had been commissioned by Lloyd’s Register and which is currently on exhibition at the Global Technology Centre in Southampton. The piece combines the skill of “painting with thread” – the craft of free machine embroidery – with contemporary digital stitching.
“GS UK worked closely with Alice, helping to translate sections of the panel into embroidery using our ApS-Ethos Embroidery design software and producing embroidery samples on our Merlin embroidery machines,” reports the company. “This piece demonstrates the numerous design solutions that we are able to offer our customers, ranging from bespoke embroidery for textile/fashion designers and design studios, to the more conventional embroidery digitising required by the wider embroidery industry.”
