Abbie Loveridge, a second-year student at Buckinghamshire New University, was awarded first prize at the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition in May. Abbie won the Clothworkers’ Foundation Award for a fabric for fashion or interior use showing an innovative combination of textile processes, while fellow student Zeba Safdar won second prize in a further Clothworkers’ Foundation Award for a material construction for either fashion or interior products produced by non-conventional processes or new technologies.

Abbie said her designs mixed digital prints and metal with embroidery, updating many elements of traditional embroidery and based around the theme of soundwaves in East London. She said: “I was not expecting this success and it is a really nice confidence boost, as well as showing that judges appreciate my work.”
