Blank garment brand Bella+Canvas has gained accreditation from the global Fair Labor Association (FLA) which promotes human rights in the workplace.
It followed a “rigorous” multi-year review of the company’s business systems for compliance with international labour standards designed to protect workers in its global supply chains.
It is a way for businesses to ensure the people working throughout their supply chains are paid fairly and protected from risks to their health, safety and well-being.
Bella+Canvas, which has been a member of the FLA since 2019, has eight self-operated facilities and two contract facilities across three countries. It is distributed in the UK by BTC Activewear, PenCarrie and Ralawise.
Norm Hullinger, president of Bella+Canvas, said: “In my 25 years in the apparel industry, I have found it widely recognised that Fair Labor accreditation is the penultimate north star regarding fair labour policies, sustainability in manufacturing and ethical business practices.
“I am so proud to be a part of an organisation that has earned Fair Labor accreditation and look forward to working closely with the Fair Labor Association team to create a path of continuous improvement for Bella+Canvas.”
The accreditation follows years of establishing workplace standards, practices and systems by Bella+Canvas to protect its people, and years of assessing, vetting and monitoring the business’ supply chain.
Highlights of its accreditation include a company-wide commitment to ethical and sustainable business practices that extend from the company’s founders and business leaders throughout the organisation, including dedicated compliance teams.
It carries out extensive factory monitoring, reporting and vetting of both owned and contracted factories for a thorough and accurate understanding of factory conditions and puts an emphasis on hands-on supplier relationships to train, audit and remediate audit findings.
Other garment companies with Fair Labor accreditation include Adidas, Gildan Activewear, Gorewear, Gymshark, Hanesbrands, Hugo Boss, Lululemon, Next Level Apparel, Nike, Patagonia and Puma.
