An official Premier League retro font has been launched for printers and retailers looking to re-create authentic-looking football team shirts.
The “iconic” font, worn by some of the most legendary players in Premier League history from 2007 to 2017, has been brought back by embellishments and print specialist Avery Dennison.
Until now, no official version of this font had been available for purchase, leading to unofficial imitations in the market. Avery Dennison, which has supplied the Premier League’s names and numbers for garments since 2019, has brought the typography back along with the exact specifications used during its original run to ensure accuracy and authenticity in every detail.
Distinct from today’s Premier League font, the 2007-2017 design featured a bold, angular style with sharp edges and a slightly condensed shape.
Steve Mason, vice president and general manager of Aftermarket & Embelex at Avery Dennison, said: “Football nostalgia is stronger than ever. Fans want to connect with their favourite team and era in a way that feels genuine.
“For years, we’ve seen unofficial versions of these fonts in circulation but now clubs, retailers and fans can access the real thing, produced to the same high standards as today’s Premier League embellishments.
“This launch is more than just a nod to history: it’s about celebrating the legacy of the Premier League and giving fans a tangible way to relive iconic moments.
“With retro jerseys growing in popularity, the demand for authentic detailing has never been higher. Avery Dennison is ensuring that every number and letter on these kits reflects the quality and craftsmanship seen on the pitch during this golden era of football.”
