It’s that time of year again when the nights are drawing in, it’s getting colder and, if you are anything like me, the demand for more visible and warmer embroidered or printed clothing is growing.
This month I wanted to touch on the subject of high visibility workwear and what is new in the marketplace. Hi-vis clothing is historically mass-produced and shipped in to the UK and, to be honest, some of the products that I see are a right load of rubbish. I have seen some products that are no way reflective enough to keep you safe nor will the fluorescent value of the clothing last more than a couple of washes, which will ultimately put your customers at risk.
This summer, the guys from StandSafe sent me their latest batch of hi-vis workwear, and boy is it a good bit of kit. The first thing I look for is good quality stitching on the stripes, which you can see on all of StandSafe’s garments.
There are a number of great products here, including the nice and chunky, full-zip hoodie with a double-lined hood. Like the brand’s sweatshirt, the hoodie is made from a very soft material, which I love. Both are going to look great logoed up although don’t go plastering them with designs and filling up the panel; there needs to be as much hi-vis exposure as possible for safety – it’s important that we’re always mindful of that.
The 100% polyester fleece has some nice details such as reflective striping over the zip pockets and additional waterproofing over the shoulders, while the softshell, which comes in yellow and orange, has blue on the bottom for a great contrast colourway.
My favourite style is the padded gilet with a grey, soft fleece on the inside. It’s reversible and, again, offers a two-tone contrast with the blue on the bottom. It also has deep pockets on the front with flaps. StandSafe has said that it will add Velcro to these pockets after watching my review, which is great!
So, if you are quoting to supply hi-vis clothing to a company, remember to sell the features and benefits of using a recognised brand, such as StandSafe – they offer interesting garments, a good range of colourways, great build quality and lots of manufacturing experience.
