Madelaine Atkinson, a past winner of the global Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery, has joined AJS Embroidery Services as marketing assistant.

Maddy will focus on developing strategic marketing initiatives, increasing brand visibility across social media platforms and expanding engagement with university networks and younger audiences.

She has an MA in entrepreneurship for design and brand innovation from the Jimmy Choo Academy (JCA), graduating with distinction. She also holds a first-class BA (hons) in textile design specialising in embroidery from Birmingham City University.

Her academic background is paired with awards including winning first place in the student fashion category in the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery in 2023, alongside several other accolades recognising craftsmanship and social impact in design.

Drawing on her deep understanding of embroidery within the fashion and design industries, she has been brought in to provide a fresh and creative perspective to AJS’s marketing direction.

AJS added: “We are excited to welcome Madelaine to the team and are looking forward to her applying her design expertise and award-winning background to help elevate awareness of our key brands such as Gunold and Tajima.

“Her insight into the next generation of embroidery and textile innovation will be a valuable asset to AJS.”

The Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery is a global competition showcasing exceptional embroidery talent, attracting entries from professional and student designers, artists and creators from over 40 countries.
