But sometimes, they simply don’t work for a project or you want to create something special that fits your creative idea. No worries. Today, I want to show you how easy it can be to custom-create a new typestyle using Midjourney with a few simple prompts. First, let’s start with the premise that whatever you create will need to be upscaled and probably vectorised. That is two steps outside of Midjourney that you can handle easily using software like Gigapixel or Adobe Live Trace. Prompt phrases To make this work, you need to use some key prompt phrases to produce the results you need. ■typography reference sheet ■five rows: “ABCDEF” “GHIJKL” “MNOPQR” “STUVWX” “YZ” ■solid black on white ■even row grid For Midjourney parameters, use “raw” and set your style low. I like 50 or 80. We want creativity, but if you give Midjourney more creative license with this project, it will have a hard time keeping to just letterforms. Also, and this is a warning, Midjourney will sometimes repeat letters or add stray marks or objects around them. It’s okay. Don’t let that trip you up. Midjourney sometimes just wants to fill up the available space. And from the Weekly help Need more help with Midjourney? Be sure to subscribe to the Midjourney Experience Newsletter. [Figure 1] Brushscript idea For this one, use the same prompts but swap ‘Metal band inspired Gothic font for ‘Fun brushscript font’. [Figure 2] Playful doodle idea And here’s another variation that is inspired by doodling – this time, use ‘Playful doodle font’ instead of ‘Fun brushscript font’. [Figure 3] But do you notice how the ‘O’ is a doodle character and not quite a letter? Let’s rerun that with the Subtle Vary command and get another set of letters in about 30 seconds. Now we have two sets of the same idea, so we can mix and match the letterforms that we like the best for the project [Figure 4].
